Curatorial Essay

Intimate Calligraphies of Forgetting II belongs to Intimate Calligraphies of Forgetting, a series investigating the ontology of the trace and the silent territory where writing exists before language. Rather than communicating meaning, the calligraphic gestures preserve the physical memory of movement itself, allowing the act of painting to become a form of inscription beyond words.

Successive layers of colour accumulate, disappear and re-emerge like fragments of an endlessly rewritten palimpsest. Turquoise atmospheres, translucent veils and delicate graphic structures create a visual field in which every mark appears both ancient and immediate. Nothing functions as illustration; every gesture remains open, resisting definitive interpretation.

Within Ovidiu Kloșka’s artistic practice, beauty is discovered through improbable configurations that gradually achieve an unexpected internal coherence. Rhythm, transparency, gesture, colour and texture interact intuitively until the painting reveals relationships that could never have been anticipated. Meaning is not imposed upon the surface but slowly emerges through the dialogue between presence and erasure.

The calligraphic signs belong to no known alphabet. They exist as autonomous traces whose significance lies precisely in their refusal to become language. Forgetting is therefore understood not as loss but as liberation from fixed meanings, allowing the gesture to recover its original vitality before interpretation begins.

As part of Intimate Calligraphies of Forgetting, Intimate Calligraphies of Forgetting II proposes that painting can preserve the energy of a gesture without reducing it to a message. The canvas becomes a place where silence writes itself, and where every trace continues to exist as a living presence beyond memory.
