Curatorial Essay
Sailing Night Wings belongs to Between the Dark and Divine, a series in which Ovidiu Kloșka investigates the fragile interval where darkness and light coexist without cancelling one another. The painting unfolds as an atmosphere of gradual emergence, where perception develops through subtle relationships rather than clearly defined forms.
The suggestion of wings is intentionally elusive. They are not depicted as physical objects but as movements of rhythm and light passing across the surface. Their silent trajectory introduces a sense of direction without fixing either destination or narrative. What matters is not arrival but the continuous unfolding of presence.
Translucent layers, luminous passages and gestural traces create a structure that remains open to interpretation. Colour accumulates slowly, allowing every decision to preserve the memory of previous gestures. Rather than describing an external reality, the painting constructs an interior field in which light gradually acquires substance through its dialogue with shadow.
Within Ovidiu Kloșka’s artistic practice, beauty is not added to the image but emerges from highly coherent relationships between colour, transparency, rhythm, gesture and material. The artist creates the conditions in which these improbable configurations can appear, allowing the painting to discover its own internal balance through the process of making.
The title suggests movement without spectacle. Sailing becomes a metaphor for attentive passage through uncertainty, while night represents the fertile condition in which perception slowly clarifies. The work proposes that transformation rarely occurs through dramatic revelation; instead, it develops through quiet adjustments that gradually alter the way we see.
Extended contemplation reveals increasingly delicate interactions between luminous intervals, textured passages and transparent veils. The painting continually changes according to the viewer’s attention, resisting fixed interpretation while remaining visually coherent.
Sailing Night Wings exemplifies the central concerns of Between the Dark and Divine, where painting becomes an exploration of the threshold between concealment and revelation. Light and darkness remain inseparable, allowing presence to emerge with quiet inevitability through the language of abstraction.
