Between Gravity and the Desire to Fly belongs to The Cycle of Remembrance, a series exploring memory as an active process of reconstruction rather than simple recollection. Here, painting becomes an archaeology of perception, where traces accumulate, disappear and return in continuously evolving configurations.

Successive layers of pigment unfold like geological strata, preserving fragments of earlier gestures beneath the visible surface. Dense passages dissolve into translucent atmospheres while energetic marks emerge only to be partially absorbed again. The composition never settles into a fixed image but remains suspended within an ongoing process of transformation.

A subtle vertical structure anchors the painting while surrounding forms seem to expand outward, suggesting both weight and the possibility of ascent. Rather than depicting wings, the work evokes the memory of flight—an impulse toward elevation that remains inseparable from gravity. The tension between these opposing forces becomes the emotional centre of the composition.
