Curatorial Essay

Fragments of Presence belongs to I Love to Eat Bacon, Too, a series in which portraiture becomes a field of psychological transformation rather than physical description. Identity is never presented as fixed or complete; it continually shifts through memory, emotion and the traces left by lived experience.

Built through expressive gestures, translucent layers and spontaneous painterly interventions, the composition oscillates between recognition and abstraction. The face appears only partially before dissolving again into colour and texture, suggesting that presence is always in the process of becoming rather than simply existing.

Within Ovidiu Kloșka’s artistic practice, painting becomes a search for improbable visual relationships capable of generating unexpected coherence. Gesture, rhythm, colour and transparency interact freely, allowing the portrait to emerge naturally from the painting itself instead of being imposed upon it.

Warm earth tones, muted violets, luminous passages and energetic marks create a visual atmosphere charged with emotional tension. Every layer preserves the memory of previous decisions while opening new possibilities, transforming the surface into a living archive of perception and feeling.

Rather than portraying a specific individual, Fragments of Presence explores the fragile space where identity remains open, unfinished and continuously rewritten. As part of I Love to Eat Bacon, Too, the painting invites viewers to recognize themselves not through resemblance but through the shared experience of uncertainty, vulnerability and transformation.
