Some paintings describe a world. Others attempt to reconstruct the conditions from which a world could emerge. The Memory of a Star Before It Was Born belongs to the second category. Rather than depicting a celestial event, the painting imagines an impossible state of existence: a memory that precedes birth itself. Here, memory is no longer psychological. It becomes cosmological.

The monumental scale invites the viewer to enter the painting rather than simply observe it. Expansive atmospheric passages, luminous veils, intricate textures and gestural structures unfold across the canvas as if recording the first vibration of existence. Forms continuously emerge and dissolve, suggesting a universe suspended between possibility and manifestation.

Within Ovidiu Kloșka’s artistic practice, beauty is never imposed upon matter. It emerges through the discovery of improbable configurations in which rhythm, colour, transparency, gesture, texture and light unexpectedly achieve a rare internal coherence.
