Curatorial Essay

Catching the Bird Fish belongs to The Wonderful Morning Dreams of Alice, a series exploring the imaginative freedom through which ordinary reality quietly transforms into the unexpected. Rather than illustrating dreams, the paintings recreate the openness with which dreams reorganize perception itself.

The impossible meeting between bird and fish becomes a poetic proposition rather than a literal image. Familiar categories dissolve, allowing forms to migrate freely between air and water, movement and stillness, recognition and invention. The title invites viewers to accept uncertainty as an essential part of the experience.

Colour unfolds through transparent layers, energetic gestures and rhythmic transitions that never settle into fixed representation. Shapes continually emerge before dissolving into new relationships, preserving the freshness and spontaneity that define the visual language of the series.

Within Ovidiu Kloșka’s artistic practice, beauty emerges through improbable configurations that gradually achieve an unexpected internal coherence. Here, imagination does not invent an alternative reality but reveals hidden relationships already waiting to be discovered. Painting becomes a process of recognising these rare moments of visual harmony.

Childhood curiosity remains central to the work. The painting approaches the world with a sense of wonder in which impossible combinations appear entirely natural. Logic gives way to intuition, allowing perception to remain playful, open and continuously evolving.

Extended observation reveals increasingly subtle dialogues between gesture, colour, transparency and texture. Every return to the painting offers new associations, demonstrating that imagination is not a departure from reality but another way of experiencing it.

Catching the Bird Fish reflects the distinctive spirit of The Wonderful Morning Dreams of Alice, where painting celebrates discovery, transformation and the limitless generosity of the imaginative mind.
